  12. After testing a Dynalink V34 modem for a month and being totally
  13. satisfied with it's performance, I bought my own today.  I had been a
  14. Supra fan but since they decided to ignore those of us without PnP PCs
  15. or OSes, I looked elsewhere.

  17. The first thing I noticed was that my new modem had an AT&T chipset as
  18. opposed to the borrowed one's Rockwell chipset.  Are the AT&T chipsets
  19. ok?  It works, but on one BBS where I always got a connect, I'm
  20. getting the occasional lockup after CONNECT 28800/MNP5.
  21. It could be a problem at their end, I guess.

  23. Anyway, I noticed a curious thing when it dials.  When the modem picks
  24. up carrier there is this intense static/clicking sound coming from the
  25. modem speaker while it's dialing and negotiating.  Maybe the modem is
  26. faulty?  The funny thing is that it ONLY occurs when using native OS/2
  27. comms apps like ZOC or the IAK, or when using Telix for Windows under
  28. Win-OS/2 or Win95.  Telix for DOS seems to be the only comms program
  29. on my PC that doesn't cause the speaker to bug out (even when running
  30. under OS/2!)

  32. I did notice a fluctuation in the clicking if the disk drive was
  33. accessed while it was dialing.

  35. Could it be picking up interference from the IDE controller?  The new
  36. modem is in exactly the same slot as the borrowed one was and it never
  37. skipped a beat with its speaker or anything.

  39. Why are two modems with identical part numbers never the same!!!

  41. Like I said, I'm using OS/2 Warp with ZOC and IAK as my comms
  42. software.  My init string is AT&F&C1&D2.
  43. I also use Win95 occasionally with Hyperterminal or Telix for Windows
  44. 1.10.
